'90 Olympia Cremina

It's funny how much color can change the vibe of even a Cremina. Our first black one make us think of a wedding! Kind of "formal," for the no nonsense Olympia.
But still your basic "no issues" Lever Underground rebuilt Cremina. We've gone all through it, replacing seals and gaskets, descaled, lubed, and adjusted the pressure and lever throw. (With the new style silicone seals.)
1990 is towards the end of the "classic" period, and the ABS drip tray replacing the elegant (and more expensive) stainless is the giveaway. But at least it matches the color scheme in this case! And reminds us that even Olympia was feeling economic pressure in the '90s (the low point in international lever sales?) as people turned to the "modern" chrome box E61 pump machines for their fancy remodeled kitchens.
Being a more "modern" Cremina, also means there was no "asbestos" boiler insulation to remove, and the cap is the "new style" cap with built in vacuum breaker, which is a definite improvement.
But other than those items, and the new wave color, it's the same old amazingly well built Cremina that Olympia had been making for two decades by this point. And because of that, regardless of the year built, it remains timeless.
With prices on all things Olympia steadily rising (it's a drag, we know, and with the stupid tariffs, it's only going to get worse) if you've ever thought about owning one, you might want to consider getting one while you can!
As an added "bonus," the original "Olympia Brown" cheap plastic pitcher and funnel are included! Hey, the funnel is actually useful for refilling the notoriously narrow boiler opening.
And we're throwing in a nice 49mm tamper!
